Go Seahawks! Go Eagles!

Flag Football Spring Season started up a few weeks ago. This time Cyrus was old enough to play. So it's been quite fun to watch them both play. Certainly makes things busier throughout the week between practices for both of them and games 1-2 times a week. But it's ok. I have had several clients (who have kids that are grown) tell me to enjoy this busy time in my life because I will miss it when it's over.

So this season Ryker is playing on the Eagles team and Cyrus is playing as the Seahawks. For the past year Cy has been watching Ryker play and been wanting to join him, so I was excited that he got to be on a team this season.

Cy's coach held a handful of practices before the games even started. After the first practice I started to worry that we made a mistake putting him in. You see, the age you can start is 5 years old. And Cy just turned 5 a few months ago. The age division that he's on is in is 5-6 year olds. Well there are only two 5 year olds and the rest are 6. Which you think wouldn't be that big of a deal, but when the 6 year olds are turning 7 soon, that a HUGE difference between them. Cy is just so little compared to these 6 year olds and Cy is just barely learning the game. At practice he would leave the field and come tell me "Mom, I don't know what I'm suppose to do." And several other times he would want to leave and go home.

Jesse and I were having mixed feelings about this. On one side we didn't want Cy to hate the game. But on the other hand we didn't want to let him quit just because it was new and hard for him. So we stuck to our guns.

Well the first game came and again I was worried I made a mistake putting him in so young. He'd get so discouraged if he couldn't get a flag, or if he wasn't sure what to do. So he would just sit down in the middle of the field. Or walk off the field in the middle of a play. It's funny and yet frustrating at the same time.

I learned that the biggest problem was that he was tired and hungry. So for the next game it was on a Saturday early in the morning so he was in a much happier mood. And much more willing to play. It was night and day difference. The coach even let him have the ball near the end of the game. Funny thing is when the quarterback passed it off to him, Cy ran so hard in the opposite direction. It was so funny because he was just running all alone as fast as he could with that ball. Everyone on the side lines was yelling to run the other direction, so just before he got to the end zone he made a U-turn and headed back the right direction. By that point the rest of the players caught up to him and they pulled his flag.

Best part is I caught the whole thing on camera. Classic.
The games have been chilly but not too bad. We just bundled ourselves (especially Fynn) and we are happy to watch.

So Ryker has been SO MUCH fun to watch this season. It's like he got good over night. The last 2 season's he kind struggled. But something clicked this time around and he's doing so awesome. I would dare say he's one of the best on his team. He's still gotta work on his catching and throwing. But man he's has some great plays where he runs the ball into the end zone. Just yesterday he had 2 breakaway runs that were nearly the full length of the field. Oh as a mom I get so giddy on the sidelines watching him play so well.

They've each played 3 games so far and it's been so much fun to watch them. I just love it. I am so grateful to have boys because I would much rather attend a game than a dance competition. Haha. I love my boys.
