Getting so BIG!

Took Ryker to his yearly checkup today. And he passed with flying colors. He was grateful today to not have any shots. Thankfully that's not an issue for a few more years.
While we were waiting for the doctor to come into the exam room, the boys started playing doctor with each other. I got a kick out of Cy walking up to Ryker and say... "Say AHHH", then put a stick in his mouth.
 Handsome boy waiting so patiently.

The Cake...

Ryker told me he wanted the frosting to be blue. So when I was making the frosting I let him drop the food coloring in until it became the right color of blue he desired.
I made two separate cakes in two 1.5qt pyrex bowls. The next day I carved out the inside of each side with a spoon.
Filled the bottom half as full as I could with Ryker's favorite candy. Frosted the top of it so the top piece would stick.
I frosted the whole thing and then put it in the fridge for 30 minutes.
Then I smoothed out the frosting and poured sprinkles on top. Once cutting it open the candy all spilled out, just like an actual piñata.
This was the easiest cake I have ever made, but turned out the coolest. I love that. Little effort with big results. Everybody loved it!

Birthday Weekend!

I think I promised myself last year that I was only going to do friend birthday party's every other year. Well, when Ryker started planning \where he wanted his party and who to invite weeks before his actual birthday... my fate was sealed.

This year we had the party was on Ryker's actual birthday (Sat, Feb 8) at his favorite yogurt shop; Orange Leaf. The one in Bountiful has a party room that is very inexpensive to reserve. So for an hour and a half we  played games...
 ...ate pizza...
...and ate self served frozen yogurt. The kids all had a blast.
That night the family went out to a movie. We ate our dinner while the movie was playing. We wanted to take Ryker out since Jesse would be working the next day when we were doing the family party.
This kid is the greatest! He has the kindest heart and the sweetest spirit. I know he is destined for greatness. I love him so much!!!
Sunday we went to my parents for dinner and afterwards family (who could be there) came for presents and cake. Ryker has lots of people that love and care for him, so he gets very blessed with plenty of gifts.
One of the highlights for me was the fact that he could read his own birthday card from Grandma and Grandpa. There were maybe 3 or 4 words he needed help with. But he read they entire message they wrote inside. It is so COOL that he is doing so well with his reading.
When I asked Ryker what he wanted for his birthday he told me...A kindle, a phone or a watch. Haha, Ya right to the first 2 buddy. I love you and all but that just isn't happening at this age.  So he got a watch. I couldn't believe he was asking for those big electronics at age 6.
He got all the candles blown out with one blow. But then again, his little brother could have had some help with it.
This year Ryker requested for me to make a Squid cake. For weeks I contemplated on how I could even execute that. After awhile I had to break the news to him that I just am not that good and we would have to figure something else out. So we went online together and found a list of ideas and came across a blog that had a tutorial on a Piñata Cake! He LOVED it (sigh of relief for mom)!!!
Happy Birthday Ryker! You are my pride and joy!

Birthday Boy Progression

I thought it would be cool to see Ryker's progression on his birthday over the last 6 years.

I can laugh about it now...

...but not when it happened.

Last Saturday (Jan 25) I didn't work because we didn't have anyone to tend the boys. So I thought I would take it off. It's not very often I get to be home on a Saturday.

Mind you, Cy hadn't been fully potty trained yet. He had the peeing down great, but struggled with going poop in the toilet. Everyday he would soil his underwear. It started to really bother and gross me out. He would even take off the soiled underwear and try to rinse them out in the toilet (because he saw mommy do that one time and wanted to do it). Problem was, he wasn't as careful about it as I am, and he would get poop everywhere.

Well on the particular Saturday, I was downstairs getting ready to go to the grocery store, when I hear some water dripping in the laundry closet. When I spotted it coming through the ceiling it dawned on my what was happening. The bathroom upstairs is right above the laundry closet, so I knew that the toilet must be flooding.

I run upstairs to find Cyrus with a bare bottom and his hand on the flusher, pointing at the toilet saying "My underwear!"

I asked (not in a nice voice) "You flushed your underwear down the toilet?"

With a guilty look he said "Ya"

Because Cy messed in his pants, he again went to the liberty of cleaning out his underwear in the toilet, but this time didn't remove them before flushing. And knowing him, he doesn't like to flush just once, it's gotta be several times. Hence the abundance of water all over the floor. I should have taken a picture.

I was shamefully furious at him. That's why it's taken me so long to write about it. I would have nothing funny to say about it. Because in that moment of poopy water all over the bathroom floor seeping into the downstairs, it was not funny to me!

But now it's a funny story to tell people. The shock on their faces is priceless, and it makes me want to tell it again and again.

This will probably be one story Cy won't ever live down the rest of his life. And don't you worry, I made him clean up all that water by himself.
