Welcoming Maxwell Jonathan Duke

I have a new nephew. YEAH!!!!

My dear sister, Manda gave birth last night to this little cutie...

Weighing in at 6lbs 13oz and measuring 20 inches long.
I love this one of him.
Since Manda is living in Eugene I got these pictures with from Jon (Max's daddy), my Mom or Chantel.

Early on yesterday I got a text from Chan telling me that she wouldn't be available to babysit for us Saturday night because her and my mom were flying up to Eugene. Manda had been in labor all night and my mom wanted to get there as soon as she could.

Manda's plan was to go natural (kuddos to her, she's awesome). The midwifery in Eugene is really small so I guess they have the mom's labor at home and then when they get close to delivering they go to the midwifery to deliver.

Around 2pm she went to the midwifery because she thought the contractions were really close and it was getting close. But when she got there she was only dilated to a 4, so they sent her back home to finish her labor.

After that I didn't hear anything more until this morning. When I got up to go exercise I had a text from Jon saying that Maxwell had arrived. Yeah! That made it easy to wake up. I was all excited!

I text my mom if she had a picture of him? How was Manda doing? How's the baby? Were there any complications? etc

It was easier for her to call me to answer all my questions. She then goes on to explain that Manda had gone back home to labor and was determined to make sure she was all ready to get him here. She didn't want to be sent home again from the midwifery. So I guess around 7ish she could feel the head. So off they went.

So I guess when they got there she was completely dilated and he was coming. When they started to have her push the baby's heart rate was dropping and they rushed her over to the nearby hospital and she had to have an emergency C-section.

The chord had been wrapped around his neck twice so it was preventing him from coming out.

Oh poor Manda. She labored for 25hours (NATURALLY) and then had to have a C-section. I want to say that is just terrible. But I'm torn because if this same situation happened years and years ago, Maxwell probably wouldn't have made it. So I have to be grateful that he is here. He's healthy and doing well.

We are all so happy to have this new addition to our family. I can't wait to see him in person.

Jesse and I, along with our boys are going up there to stay a week in the middle of September. It won't come fast enough.

He sealed his fate

As we have watched our chickens grow we were noticing that one of the Barred Rock's was looking like a Rooster. But we weren't exactly sure. Until he started to crow!

We didn't want to have a rooster for two reasons. One, the Bountiful City Ordinance doesn't allow it. Second, we didn't want to deal with fertilized eggs and the possibility of baby chicks in our eggs.

So after two days of crowing Jesse put up an ad on KSL for a free Rooster and the next day he was gone. Thankfully a lady from the Country wanted him to bread with her flock of hens. So the little man is going to be super happy doing what he does best.

We were kind of sad to see him go. But it's for the best.
