It's been 2 1/2 weeks since Jesse fractured his foot. He has been doing significantly better. He's able to get around with his boot really well. And he doesn't have the need for the crutches anymore. While he is doing better, things still aren't where they need to be. It still really bothers him.
With this in mind the upcoming physical test for West Valley Fire Department was seeming to cause some concern (More concern on my part than Jesse, who has been cool as a cucumber the whole time).
He had talked to several different people on what he should do about his foot. Some said to show up with the boot on and see how it goes. Others said to wear a brace and to do his best.
Jesse kept going back and forth on what he should do. He wanted to wear his boot so he wouldn't injure himself further. On the other hand he didn't want to come across that he was a broken man and unhirable.
This morning was the moment of truth. He decided to go with the brace. His testing time was 9am.
Around 10am I hadn't heard from him, so I started to get a little worried that something bad had happened. But it turns out he was just hanging out to recover and to chat with some of the firefighters.
The cut off time was 10:20 minutes. Jesse finished it in 8:53. Not bad for a guy with a broken foot right? He said it went well and that he probably could have done it quicker but since he has been taking things easy the past few weeks he didn't want to push it.
After the test he reported his time to the H.R. lady and scheduled his oral board interview. He'll be interviewing next Tuesday the 18th at 3:00pm. Jesse hopes that in the interview that some how he'll be able to mention that he broke his foot. But we'll see in a week how that goes.
Jesse heard from his friend, Alex (he too is testing with West Valley) the Fire Department is looking to hire 5 to 6 guys full time. This is the most positions that we have heard of any Fire Department having to fill. So the odds of Jesse getting hired are good. We are trying not to get our hopes up. Things happen for a reason. But it would be really cool if he could get this full time job along with South Salt Lake's part time position. Jesse would be in Fire Fighter Heaven. But we can't count our chickens before they hatch.
I'm just grateful Jesse was able to well on the Physical test and not hurt his foot worse. We pray that he'll do well in his interview next week.
In the mean time we still haven't heard anything from SSL. Still working on the background check.
Along with all this Jesse has been working on his prerequisites to get into Paramedic School which will start in January. He has been one busy man. And it's only begun. Between these two possible jobs in the making and Paramedic school three nights a week, I am not going to have a husband around for the year 2013. haha. No, I hope that's not the case. He's just going to be a really busy man.
Only time will tell. Until then we wait. Humbly and Patiently.
