We got on the flight piece of cake. I wish all the flights getting on would have been that easy. At this time I had heard from my mom that there was a BIG possibility that Ryker and I weren't going to make it on the Long Beach to Salt Lake flight. But we still had to try because if we didn't make it on then we would automatically be rolled over to the next morning flight with priority over the other standbys.
So while we were waiting at the gate in Seattle I was trying to figure out where we might stay if we got stuck in Long Beach. :( I tried my brother in law, Tyson, but they were working late, so that option wasn't going to work out that great. So at this point I thought I would just play it by ear.
Once in the air we got to see Mount Rainer (At the time I didn't know that it was named that..but I figured it out once I got home).
I think we landed around 5 and the flight to Salt Lake was leaving at 7:30pm. By now I had confirmation that we weren't getting on that flight. I think there were about 15-20 seats available and we got bumped down on the standby list as 44 an 45. Pretty much slim to none, but in the back of my mind I kept hoping that by some miracle we could make it home that night. All we could do was just sit and wait.
While we were at the gate I was trying to figure out where we could possibly stay the night. Tyson's wife, Tayler works for the Marriott so she was trying to get us a room. Unfortunately the closest hotel to the Long Beach Airport with available rooms was 9 miles away. We had no way of getting there and I was too tired to walk and too cheap to take a taxi.
I called Heidi at this point because she had been stranded in Long Beach at one time and she had mentioned there was a hotel right across the street from the airport. This would be ideal. She told me that her brother in law, Greg was the one who got her the room there. She told me she'd call them and see what they could do.
Waiting to hear back from Heidi I get a text message from Greg's daughter, Sarah saying "Rumor has it you're stuck at the airport. We're about 30 minutes away... you want to stay the night?"
"Yes Please!"
I then remembered that Sarah and Jon had moved to California only a few months ago. So it couldn't have worked out any better! I was thrilled! Not only did we have a free place to stay, but we got to see more family members.
While we were waiting (we sure did ALOT of waiting on this trip) I went to the Just Ask Desk and had them roll us over to the morning flight. Then I had to call my client who I had down at 10am the next morning, to tell her that I needed to reschedule her. Thankfully she was understanding to the situation.
The one client that I was most concerned about was a bride. She was scheduled at 11:30am and the morning flight was scheduled to land at 10:49am. So all should be well. I only had to move ONE client. Not too bad.
Once Sarah and Jon picked Ryker and I up, we all went to Norm's for dinner. Ryker and I were starving. It hit the spot.We chatted awhile, then headed to their apartment where Sarah had a bed already put together for us. She is so dear!
I can't thank Jon and Sarah for the generosity. Kindest people I know. They certainly earned some brownie points in heaven. :)
